Washington Dulles Airport: More than forty flights to China are canceled
The United States cancels dozens of Chinese airline flights to China. Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines and Xiamen Airlines flights between late January and late March are affected.
The United States has canceled dozens of passenger flights to China, the overwhelming majority of which are expected to take off from Dulles Airport in Washington due to China’s strict corona measures against American airlines. The US Department of Transportation announced on Friday that 44 flights would be suspended. Thus, flights operated by the Chinese airlines Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines and Xiamen Airlines between the end of January and the end of March are concerned.
China’s aviation authority recently canceled flights operated by US airlines American, Delta and United after passengers tested negative for the corona virus before departure but later tested positive upon arrival in China. The US Department of Transportation justified its decision by saying that the Chinese measures affected airline operations and therefore appropriate countermeasures were warranted.
“US airlines that comply with all relevant Chinese regulations regarding pre-departure and in-flight protocols should not be penalized if passengers test positive for Covid-19 on arrival,” he said.
China is pursuing a zero Covid strategy. Due to the upcoming Olympics in just under three weeks, the People’s Republic has tightened its corona measures again and has already suspended thousands of flights to the capital Beijing.
