General disruption of American Airlines flights due to a network outage
Last Tuesday, 12/24/2024, American Airlines was forced to ground all of its aircraft, due to a technical problem, caused by a failure of DXC Technology, its operating system provider responsible for ensuring the maintenance and proper functioning of its flight operations.
Following this incident, the American carrier had to ground all of its flights for an hour. More than 1,000 flights were delayed due to this network outage, while 19 flights were canceled.
This is what American Airlines reported via its press release, a failure that caused a disruption to 63% of the capacity of its scheduled flights during the day (only 37% of flights took off on time).
In total, 3,901 flights were scheduled for Tuesday with American Airlines, or about 2,457 were affected by the outage.
American Airlines said the flight has been resolved. In the meantime, the number of takeoffs has been reduced in order to avoid congestion on the runways and to ensure that all flights are properly controlled and that no accidents occur.
