Earn points
From flights with Delta and its many airline partners to credit card affiliations, SkyMiles offers several ways to accumulate points for status and rewards. Miles are earned equally on all Delta options: Delta, Delta Shuttle and Delta Connection, each flight earns a minimum of 500 miles or miles flown, whichever is greater.
Delta’s airline partners include Aeroméxico, Air France, China Southern, GOL, Virgin Atlantic and more. These partners will accept your Delta SkyMiles number, making it easier to maximize your rewards.
Delta SkyMiles can be obtained from your credit card partner, American Express. Depending on special promotions, every dollar spent with a credit card partner will generally earn one SkyMiles point.
Redeeming points
Booking rewards travel is a straightforward process, if seats are available! The number offered has been reduced, so be prepared with more than one travel itinerary. Reward tickets start at 25,000 miles for a domestic ticket, but most trips will require 50,000 miles. Don’t forget your credit card: there is a charge for your free ride.
Purchases with your SkyMiles points are limited and available only to “Medallion” members, a special status category. Due to the costs and the limitations of rewards, the SkyMiles program is generally a disappointment. That said, if you’re flexible with reward travel, SkyMiles can work for you.
For its personal customers, Delta Air Lines has SkyMiles with no expiration date. When acquiring Silver, Gold, Platinum, or Diamond loyalty levels in its rewards program, upgrades are free between the Dominican Republic and the United States – without requiring additional miles or investment. They can be confirmed up to three days before the departure date, depending on the level of the traveler in its program.
The United States Company also has an equalization offer for frequent flyer status: if you belong to the program of another airline and have a higher status there, Delta gives you the additional possibility of granting you this status in advance. When you cover a certain number of miles in three months, you are validated for the rest of the year.
