Spirit Airlines is recruiting pilots and cabin crew
Spirit Airlines is re-recruiting for several positions, including pilots and flight attendants and flight attendants
Spirit Airlines has just become the first major US airline to start hiring pilots and cabin crew again since the start of the pandemic.
Spirit Airlines is recruiting!
As reported by CNBC, ultra low cost carrier Spirit Airlines is re-recruiting for several positions. Among them are pilots and flight attendants and flight attendants:
– Spirit plans to resume training courses for new pilots and flight attendants as of March 2021
– The airline last trained a new class of pilots in May 2020 and the last training of a new class of Cabin Crew Members in February 2020.
Spirit Airlines hopes to see demand pick up sharply during the summer. The airline can only train a limited number of pilots and Cabin Crew Members, which is why hiring is starting now. In this way, the training can take place in stages.
Spirit Airlines has avoided forced employee leave during the pandemic. This is thanks to a combination of reduced hours, voluntary leave and voluntary early retirement.
In addition to hiring new employees, the airline is also recalling some of the workers who had taken time off.
The very optimistic outlook for Spirit Airlines
How well is Spirit Airlines hiring, when in some other airlines only people over 20 years of service fly?
Spirit Airlines has a much more optimistic outlook than other airlines. As we begin to see demand pick up, leisure travel will usually pick up first. Spirit Airlines is very well positioned as the airline does not rely on business travel.
However, the airline may be overconfident. Spirit Airlines expects to return to 2019 capacity levels by the summer. Of course, it should be recognized that the capacity levels are different from the number of passengers. But then again, the airline will not increase capacity if the planes are empty.
And who knows, maybe the airline is not too far away. People are no doubt enthusiastic about traveling. And this as we begin to see more and more vaccinated. Realistically, the biggest recovery in leisure flights will come more towards the end of the summer rather than the beginning of the summer.
Optimistic or realistic?
Spirit Airlines becomes the first major US airline to start hiring pilots and cabin crew since the start of the pandemic. This comes on top of the recall of many workers who had taken time off.
This is an exciting development and indicates that things are moving in the right direction in the industry. Spirit will likely have a faster recovery than traditional airlines. These depend on business travel and long-haul international networks.
